Having a deeper concern for your family system is worth seeking help!
Family therapy is an extension of individual therapy for adults and adolescents that is possible when there is a ‘break’ in the way the family system is working.
Perhaps…
… your middle child has started retreating away from the family and has a new friend group. He may even be getting angry at just your presence.
Or
… your spouse is struggling to get out of bed and hardly wants to engage in life leaving you with the added stress of money, kids, and household.
Or
… another family member is angry all the time and lashes out when asked to participate in routine chores or family obligations.
These are example scenarios in which families need help. Through the process of working in a family group setting, we can assist the family on re-establishing healthy boundaries and communication.
Let’s look at common goals.
There are many ways in which I help families find common goals and learn about their family and individual values. Through exploration and inquiry, we can find many avenues to pursue to resolve issues.
As a family member struggles, it is imperative they feel love and support from the rest of the family. This is often a challenging process without help.
How does family therapy work?
Family assignments will be a part of therapy. Some of these may be communication exercises, required family meals without technology, and parents giving more responsibilities to the rest of the family.
